Buyer Agency Rule Changes 2024
Industry-wide changes took effect in 2024. Here is what they mean in practice.
Written buyer agreements
Before touring homes together, buyers and their agent sign an agreement that spells out the services provided and how the agent is compensated.
Compensation is negotiable
Commission has always been negotiable, and it still is. The agreement states the amount or rate in advance so there are no surprises.
Offers of compensation move off the MLS
Sellers may still offer to contribute toward buyer agent compensation, but that offer is no longer advertised through the MLS.
Representation still matters
The value of an experienced advocate through search, offer strategy, inspection and closing is unchanged. Let's talk through what the agreement means for you.
